The ZX100 is built for skiers who spend time both in and out of bounds and want one ski that can handle soft snow, trees, bumps and the occasional groomer without becoming boring. Its 100 mm waist offers noticeably more versatility than the wider ZX models, while the progressive shape still gives it plenty of float when the snow gets deeper.

The Rocker/Camber/Rocker profile lifts the tip and tail for easier turn initiation and better performance in soft snow. Camber underfoot adds energy and grip, while the early-rise tip helps the ski stay on top rather than diving when the snow gets heavy or uneven.

The construction uses a Poplar/Beech wood core with wider stringers, reducing the amount of epoxy and keeping the ski relatively light and flexible compared with Kästle’s more heavily built FX and MX models. Two layers of fiberglass provide energy and support, while the rubber layer helps damp vibrations and keeps the ski composed in variable snow.

The ZX100 has a directional shape with a fairly strong, poppy tail. It is quick to turn, easy to manoeuvre through trees and bumps, and happy to make shorter, more energetic turns. On groomers, it can carve surprisingly well for a freeride ski, although the early-rise tip is not designed to lock into a frontside carve like a dedicated piste ski. The tip prefers to stay loose and steerable, especially when the snow is soft.

This is not the most stable ski for opening the throttle on hardpack, and it is not meant to be. Its strengths are agility, playfulness, flotation and versatility. Advanced skiers will appreciate how much the ski gives back, while progressing intermediates can also enjoy it without being constantly overpowered.
