Kästle ZX 115 (Model 23/24)

The Kästle ZX115 is the widest member of the ZX freeride family, designed for skiers who spend their time looking for fresh snow and bigger lines. With 115 mm underfoot, it offers serious flotation in deep powder while keeping the playful character of the narrower ZX108 and ZX100.

The construction combines a poplar and beech wood core with two layers of fiberglass and rubber damping material. The semi-cap sidewall construction blends the agility of a cap ski with the grip and power transfer of a sandwich sidewall. Wider wood stringers give the ski a more forgiving, playful flex, allowing it to move with the snow rather than simply bulldozing through it.

Hollowtech 2.0 reduces weight in the tip and helps keep the front of the ski smooth and easy to steer. The long, low rocker and extended taper create a directional powder shape that floats well and enters turns with a loose, drifty feel. The tail remains more supportive and stable, giving the ski a solid finish to the turn when you want to put some pressure into it.

At 2310 g per ski in 186 cm, the ZX115 is not a featherweight powder ski. There is a fair amount of material underfoot, and the weight contributes to its composed feel at speed. The shape and rocker help keep the swing weight manageable, so it does not feel like you are trying to turn a pair of railway sleepers.

The ZX115 is best suited to advanced and expert skiers who want a dedicated powder ski for deep snow and big mountain terrain. It can handle groomers and firmer snow better than its width might suggest, but this is still a 115 mm freeride ski. Its natural habitat is fresh snow, not icy mornings on the piste.
