Kästle Obsidian 92

The Obsidian 92 is a slightly unusual ski — and that is exactly the point. With 92 mm underfoot, it sits on the narrow side of the freeride spectrum, giving it the quickness and precision of a narrower all-mountain ski while keeping a distinctly freeride-oriented shape.

The Poplar/Beech wood core keeps the ski light and responsive, while two layers of fiberglass add energy and support. Kästle’s HollowTech 2.0 reduces mass in the shovel, helping to keep the tip calm and the ski predictable when you start pushing harder.

The shape is where the Obsidian gets particularly interesting. A wide, smoothly curved shovel combines with long tip rocker and taper, making the front of the ski easy to bend and quick to release from a turn. The tail is flatter and less rockered, giving the ski directional support without making it stubborn when you want to change direction.

With its short radius — just 12.7 m at 162 cm — the Obsidian 92 is naturally quick from edge to edge and likes shorter, more reactive turns. It feels light on its feet and manoeuvrable in trees, bumps and tighter terrain, while the 92 mm platform still gives you enough support when the snow gets soft.

This is not a ski designed to spend its entire life on groomers, but it is perfectly comfortable there. Think of it as a versatile all-mountain ski with genuine freeride instincts: precise enough for the resort, playful enough for sidecountry and soft snow, and considerably less serious than some of Kästle’s more demanding models.

Summary:

A lightweight and unusually playful 92 mm freeride ski. The Obsidian 92 combines a short radius, long tip rocker and tapered shovel with a stable wood-core construction, making it quick, precise and easy to manoeuvre. A strong choice for skiers who want one ski for resort laps, trees and occasional soft snow without moving into a wide, heavy freeride setup.
