Kästle FX 96 Ti

The Kästle FX 96 Ti is a performance-oriented freeride ski with a clear preference for speed and deliberate skiing. At 96 mm underfoot, it sits comfortably between piste and freeride categories, but its character is more focused than a typical all-mountain ski. It wants to be driven, and it rewards a skier who knows how to stay centred, load the ski properly and let it run. This is not a ski for relaxed cruising or standing passively on the edges.

The Powerzone Sandwich Sidewall construction combines a TRI-Ti woodcore of poplar, beech and paulownia with titanal reinforcement. The result is a strong, damp and highly stable platform with excellent power transmission and convincing edge hold. The FX 96 Ti feels particularly composed on firm, uneven or chopped-up snow, where its strength and damping allow it to maintain control at speed. HOLLOWTECH 3.0 helps reduce vibration around the tip, while the low camber and Progressive Rise / Dual Rise profile make turn initiation easier without taking away the ski’s serious character.

On groomers, the FX 96 Ti is a surprisingly capable carving ski. Its 96 mm waist moves between edges easily, and the powerful construction encourages fast, open turns with a GS-style feel. In softer snow, the waist width and Dual Rise provide useful flotation for ordinary powder days, while the ski remains precise and engaged rather than loose and surfy. It is not a deep-powder specialist, but it is a very convincing choice for skiers who want one ski for resort laps and the freeride terrain around them.

The trade-off is that the FX 96 Ti demands technique. It is not especially forgiving when you get lazy, fall into the back seat or enter tight bumps and confined terrain. The strong tail can be reluctant to release in heavy snow, and quick, low-effort skiing is not its natural environment. Expert skiers can certainly take it into moguls, trees and rough snow, but the ski makes most sense when you have room to build speed and use its stability. Small jumps and natural terrain features are well within its range, although its appeal comes from precise, powerful skiing rather than playful park-style handling.
