Kästle ZX 108 (Model 23/24)
The Kästle ZX 108 is the playful member of Kästle's freeride family. With 108 mm underfoot, generous taper and rocker at both ends, it is designed to move easily through soft snow and release from the turn without demanding that every run be skied in a straight line.
The ZX 108 uses a poplar and beech wood core, combining the lighter character of poplar with the strength and support of beech. Dual fiberglass laminates add structure and help give the ski its precise, predictable feel. It is not an ultra-light ski at around 2160 g in 184 cm, but the weight contributes to a solid feel underfoot when the terrain gets rough.
The tip and tail rocker, combined with the tapered shape, are what give the ZX 108 its characteristic drifty personality. It is easy to release the tails, change direction and smear a turn when the snow gets deep or the terrain gets playful. The Hollowtech 2.0 construction reduces weight in the tip, helping the front of the ski stay more agile in soft snow.
The ZX 108 is primarily a freeride ski and is happiest away from perfectly groomed pistes, particularly in powder and softer conditions. Its playful shape makes it less demanding than a full-on charger, but Kästle still rates it for expert skiers. For someone looking for a precise freeride ski with a more relaxed and playful character, the Drifter is a very good fit.
