The ORTOVOX FREE RIDER 28 is designed for skiers who need a backpack for the most demanding descents. The backpack is compatible with the certified Clasp Spine Protector, which can be inserted into a dedicated compartment. You can securely attach everything you need for even the most extreme freeride adventures, including two ice axes.

Highly durable and comfortable, this backpack fits like a glove, even at high speeds. Thanks to the Clasp Flex Belt tightening system, which can be adjusted with a single movement, the backpack becomes an extension of your body, helping you maintain your balance. It wraps snugly around your back and stays firmly in place, even during aggressive riding.

The ORTOVOX FREE RIDER 28 features several practical compartments:

- Main compartment: Accessible through the back panel. Simply place the backpack face down in the snow and open it like a suitcase to see all your gear at once. Inside, you'll find a hydration reservoir compartment and an outlet for the drinking tube, which runs through a shoulder strap. The compartment offers plenty of space for equipment you want to keep dry. You can also access the main compartment through a convenient top zipper.

- Second compartment – dedicated avalanche safety pocket: This compartment features separate storage for your avalanche shovel blade, shovel handle, and probe. Wet equipment stays separate from the rest of your gear. The zipper pulls are deliberately orange, making them easy to spot in an emergency. You'll also find a small pocket and an Emergency Card inside.

- Third compartment – quick-access gear: Designed for frequently used items such as gloves, hats, balaclavas, goggles, and other essentials. Everything stays within easy reach, so you don't have to open the entire backpack.

- Hip belt pocket: Convenient for storing your phone, action camera, or regular camera.

- Helmet attachment: The bottom of the backpack features a dedicated helmet attachment system.

Back Protection with an Insertable Certified Spine Protector

The backpack is compatible with the Clasp Spine Protector, a certified back protector with motorcycle safety certification, suitable for people up to 200 cm tall. Weighing just 200 g, it adds minimal weight while helping protect your back.

The backpack features a wide hip belt that is easy to adjust and tighten using the integrated Clasp Flex Belt system. You can tighten it with one hand to secure the backpack even more firmly against your body.

Wide, comfortable shoulder straps distribute the backpack's weight more evenly across your shoulders, back, and hips.

The back system features memory foam padding divided into six ergonomic zones. This allows the backpack to contour to your body and stay firmly in place, even during the most aggressive skiing.

The entire back contact area is covered with practical softshell material, which improves grip and prevents snow from sticking to the backpack.

The backpack features A-Skifix and D-Skifix attachment systems, giving you the flexibility to carry your skis either in the traditional A-frame configuration or diagonally.

Short-Back Version (“S”)

This short-back “S” version is designed for people with a back length of 36–44 cm.

The backpack is also available in a regular version for people with a back length of 42–50 cm.

Back length is measured from the seventh cervical vertebra at the base of the neck to the top of the pelvis.

The short version is not simply shorter in the back panel. It also features a modified shoulder strap shape and an adapted hip belt to provide a more precise fit and improved stability on your back.
