Black Crows Captis + Tyrolia PRD 12 GW (Model 18/19)

The Captis takes the playful, freestyle-influenced character of Black Crows' wider all-mountain skis and puts it into a narrower 90 mm platform. The result is a versatile resort ski that feels particularly at home on groomers and in tighter terrain, without giving up the ability to explore softer snow. Its tight 18 m sidecut makes it quick to turn, while the double rocker profile keeps it easy to pivot and manoeuvre.

Underfoot, a medium classic camber provides a useful balance of grip and stability, with rocker at both ends making turn initiation and direction changes more relaxed. The poplar wood core gives the ski a lively, resilient feel, while the semi-cap construction keeps the build relatively light. Its tolerant flex makes it accessible, but the Captis still has enough character for more playful skiing: park laps, side hits, trees, bumps and the occasional powder run.

At 90 mm underfoot, it is not a dedicated powder ski, but for someone spending most of their time at the resort and wanting one ski for piste, freestyle and some off-piste detours, the Captis makes a lot of sense. Supplied with Tyrolia PRD 12 GW bindings.

Why choose this ski – and why not?

The Captis is a good choice if you want one playful, versatile ski for resort days, with enough edge grip and quick handling for groomers and trees, plus the freedom to venture into the park or softer snow. Its 90 mm waist is a sensible middle ground, but it won't offer the float of a wider freeride ski in deeper powder. Choose it for all-round resort skiing with a freestyle twist, rather than as a specialist powder or hard-charging piste ski.
