Freestyle poles are usually only around 100 cm long. No 90 degrees angle rule applies here. The poles you'll be using in the park should have a softer handle and shouldn't get in your way. The choice of length is very individual. The reason why such short poles are used is primarily for safety. Long poles could easily hit you in the stomach if you have a bad impact.
